Week 9 Refutation and Concession

1. What is my thesis?
Hieronymus Bosch should be categorized as an altarpiece painter..

2. What is the opposite position?
Hieronymus Bosch is the beginning painter of surrealism painter.

3. What arguments can I anticipate?
a) Hieronymus Bosch draw characters and world which do not exist in reality.
4. How will I counter those arguments?

a) I agree that he draw non reality but it is for region which is unreal.

My Refutation and Concession

 Some of art experts can say that Hieronymus Bosch is surrealism painter rather than an altarpiece painter. They insist that he draw characters and would which do not exist in the reality. I agree that and it is of course things because Bosch tried to express the Bible which belongs to regions. People used to have region to remove the fear and anxiety of their lives and they believe unreality. As a Christian, Hieronymus Bosch wanted to warn about the common misdeeds and convey the contents to the public. Actually he draw monsters, devils, some animals which have horns, Eden park, heaven, evils, Adam and Eve. All of these are contained in Bible. He just tried to express the exact fact from his region without his imagination which requires in Surrealism. I want to emphasize that although his paintings look like surrealism, it is an unavoidable process to describe his belief which are not realistic. Therefore, depending on his intention, he should be categorized to an altarpiece painter rather than surrealism painter.
